RSC Open Stages Update - September 2011
The Royal Shakespeare Company celebrates its 50th anniversary next year. It plans to do this in a massive way with collaboration of theatres worldwide, involvement in the Olympic Celebrations plus a host of other events. They claim that there will be over one million tickets available throughout the year to see a Shakespeare production of one sort or another.
One of their major initiatives is the RSC Open Stages programme where they work closely with amateur theatre groups throughout the UK and with regional professional theatres to celebrate the works of the Bard and all things associated.
BLT entered our production of Macbeth into this festival and we were accepted. Our regional theatre is the Contact in Manchester and several members have already been to technical and acting workshops there.
Ultimately ,we may be asked to take our performance of Macbeth either to the Contact or to Straford itself, sometime next year, to perform as part of the celebrations.
I will try and keep everyone updated via the theatre notice boards and the newsletter but if anyone would like to know more then please contact J. Scott on 07751532307.
